SCHEDULE

Part One

A poetry performance by Chanel Briggs followed by a community preview of a new film by Millefiore Clarkes featuring Chanel Briggs and other locals of note. The film is an observation of Epekwitk, PEI over one recent (too hot) summer.

Chanel (they/them) is a poet and performance artist whose work explores Black Queer sacredness. Through vulnerable, provocative expression, they create space for righteous anger and discomfort as tools for transformation. Their art blends poetry and visual media to navigate identity, spirituality, and community.

Millefiore Clarkes

Millefiore Clarkes is a filmmaker based on Epekwitk/PEI. She is passionate about making films that explore the rhythms and patterns in nature, and human interconnectivity.

Part Two

Three video installations in a cinema setting that contemplate the invisible labour of early motherhood, followed by a Q & A with the artists.

  •  A 2D animated video of the artist’s POV as a new mother, highlighting repetition and monotony of care work in the postpartum phase.

  • This piece emerged from the artist’s pandemic-fuelled awareness of the ways patriarchal and capitalist systems exploit unpaid domestic and care labour. The undervaluing of invisible labour becomes visible through graphic representation of daily care routines.

  • An experimental video self-portrait exploring the invisible labour of caregiving, capturing intimate, repetitive gestures that reflect the emotional weight and quiet resilience of daily care work.

Part Three

A sensual, somatic, and farcical set of (experimental) shorts.

  • The picking of sweetgrass becomes an action — and word — with profound meaning in this gently mesmerizing piece by multidisciplinary writer and artist shalan joudry.

  • Up close, mold is an intricate mass of branching filaments and fruiting bodies creating a connected web.  When viewed from a distance mold loses its complexities and a more destructive nature is realized.

  • Two lovers are told the tale of the great god Pan’s violent pursuit of the forest nymph Syrinx in a film that refracts the myth through layers of song, identity, and performance: at once a ballet, trans fantasy, and exploration of love and power.

  • Lucille flexes her bowling skills.

  • A stop motion hand crafted animation that takes a bite out of capitalism.
